Daily Madden: Does Wallace Have A Future With 49ers?
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - In their search for a backup to Colin Kaepernick, the San Francisco 49ers signed a fifth quarterback, former Cleveland QB and Sacramento native Seneca Wallace. "He does have experience and probably experience doing some of the things that the 49ers are doing with Kaepernick," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
"He can run the ball, and he can run the ball very effectively," said Madden. Wallace will compete with Colt McCoy, Scott Tolzien and B.J. Daniels. "(The others) haven't been impressive and they haven't played a lot in regular season," Madden said. "The separation is how many NFL regular season games they've played... (Wallace) has played a lot. He's really been there before in just about any situation."
But Madden said that doesn't mean Wallace will get the number two spot. "I would think they're thinking in the back of their mind that might be a possibility -- let's bring him in and just look and see what we have."
Raiders fans might get a better indication of whether Matt Flynn or Terrelle Pryor will be running the offense this season when Oakland meets the Bears Friday night. "At some point you have to show the direction that you're going and usually that point is the third pre-season game," Madden said.
"If Pryor gets quite a few more snaps, I would think that they're really seriously considering him to start or play more... Every time they put him in, he plays well. I remember I was at the last game and I was watching him and he just went right down the field. And I said if they don't watch it, they're going to have to start this guy. But I don't know that they're ready to make that move."
