Daily Madden: Derek Carr's Test Has Just Begun
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Rookie Derek Carr has been named the starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders as they prepare for their season opener against the New York Jets Sunday. "You could see it coming," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
Matt Schaub, acquired by the Raiders in a trade with the Texans, sat out the last preseason game Thursday night with a sore elbow. He had been ineffective in the earlier preseason games. "Derek Carr was going to get his chance, and then in the first quarter he threw three touchdown passes," Madden said. "So I said then, it has to be."
Madden said Carr brings a lot of unanswered questions. "How is he going to do on the road? How is he going to do against a Rex Ryan defense that's going to show him everything that you can show him? He's going to be tested a lot more than he was tested in that first quarter of the fourth preseason game... It's going to take time. He's going to have to see everything and experience everything. Believe me, they're going to throw it at him."
