Daily Madden: Defense Key In Mavs' Championship
DALLAS (KCBS) - The Dallas Mavericks took Game Six and the NBA Championship Sunday night with a 105-95 victory over the Miami Heat.
The Mavs' Dirk Nowitzki was a clutch performer throughout the playoffs. But John Madden told the KCBS morning crew that the Dallas defense, Jason Kidd and Jason Terry shouldn't be overlooked.
"You talk about Dallas and you try to simplify it to Dirk Nowitzki. But this Jason Terry, doesn't he seem to play well?" asked Madden. "When they need big plays, this guy seems to make it for them, and he hardly ever gets mentioned."
But it wasn't the scoring that really impressed the former coach.
"I really think that Dallas won because of their defense," Madden said.
Cal's baseball team is headed to the College World Series for the first time since 1992 after a season that started with the program about to be eliminated due to UC budget cuts.
Donors stepped in and rescued the program.
"You think of what those players and coaches went through," Madden said, "that's a great story... It just goes to show that sometimes people think it's doom and gloom, but if you step up and fight what they're doing you can also prevail." (8:10)
