Daily Madden: Debating Harbaugh's Call
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Dallas Cowboys rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the 49ers in overtime 27-24 at Candlestick Sunday. Did 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh make the right call in keeping the field goal points and a ten point lead instead of a accepting a penalty first down at the 22 yard line with 11 minutes to play?
John Madden told the KCBS morning crew he thinks Harbaugh made the right call.
"The assumption is always it's a guarantee; that if you take those points off that you are in essence going to trade those three for four more. And as we know assumptions make idiots out of all of us."
After leading 21-3 at the half, the Raiders lost 38-35 to the Buffalo Bills Sunday. Madden said it may have looked like a Raiders defensive collapse, but the Bills deserve some credit too.
"Buffalo finally figured them out, and I think it started at the end of the first half," Madden said. "I thought they took the momentum from the Raiders at the end of the first half, took it through half-time, brought it out in the third quarter and really kept it the rest of the game." (8:41)
