Daily Madden: Culliver's Super Bowl Distraction
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - 49ers defensive back Chris Culliver has apologized for his anti-gay comments at Super Bowl Media Day. The KCBS Radio morning crew asked John Madden if the wide-spread attention to Culliver's remarks might affect the team's focus.
"You hope not," Madden said. "You can't allow distractions. It's always your mission - and it gets to be a cliche - you know, be the best you can this day, have the best practice today that we can. The game is the thing, and if you don't win that game, then everything else you put in for it is for naught. This is the biggest game of your life... You can't let (controversies like that) affect or bother the team."

As they prepare to face speedy 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick, the Baltimore Ravens are using Dennis Dixon, who ran the read option at Oregon, as their scout team QB.
"The thing that no one knows about Colin Kaepernick is how fast he runs," Madden said. "They can get it and learn it in a day or two, but no one can do it like (Kaepernick) can do it... (Dixon) can only do so much, but at least they're getting a look and they're learning how to play it... But this isn't about (defensive) assignments, this is about reaction and reaction to speed."
