Daily Madden: Critics Of NFL Safety Rules 'Make Me Sick'

OAKLAND (CBS SF) - The prognosis for Raiders receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is good a day after he was carted off the field following a scary fourth-quarter head injury in the Raiders win over the Vikings.

"Even though you put in some new safety rules, it's still a violent game," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "You watch those guys hit and you hear the sounds and the cracks. I just get so upset with people who say that we're 'sissyfying' the game, you know, 'you ought to put skirts on the players.' Those guys make me sick. I'd love to get any one of them out there that ever says that -- not put them in a game, hell, they'd die before they got in there -- but just put them on the sideline. Just stand on the sideline and listen and see what goes on in a football game."
At 9-1, the 49ers own the second best record in the NFL after a decisive victory over the Arizona Cardinals Sunday. "(The 49ers') days of sneaking up on anyone are over," Madden said. "(Former NFL coach) Bill Parcells used to say that 'you are what your record says you are...' Who are the best teams with the best records? You go number one -- Green Bay Packers. Number two -- San Francisco 49ers." (9:05)
