Daily Madden: Coaches' Clash Overshadows Great 49ers Victory
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - After the San Francisco 49ers stunning 25-19 victory over the Lions in Detroit Sunday, much of the talk about the game focused on the postgame tiff between 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh and Lions head coach Jim Schwartz. "I hope that the coaching confrontation afterwards doesn't overtake the great job that I think the 49ers have done," Madden said.
"I think that feat is amazing -- to have their record what it is today with what they went through in the off-season... not starting off strong against Detroit, an undefeated team at their place in a hostile environment... and getting it turned around and winning that game, I think that was a great thing.
"I think this deal at the end is going to overblown, over-rated, over-talked about and you forget how well and how hard they played... That had nothing to do with winning or losing, not a thing... (But) I'm sure both of them wish it had never happened," said Madden.
Meanwhile, the Oakland Raiders may have to go the rest of the season without QB Jason Campbell who broke his collarbone in Oakland's 24-17 win over the Cleveland Browns. It's not yet clear if back-up Kyle Boller or someone else will replace Campbell.
"It's easy to say 'next man up," but the next man up is not always the same guy as the guy that went down," Madden said. "I see people saying 'this guy, that guy,' they'll bring in all these guys. It's hard to bring someone in after you've played six regular season games."
At Sunday's Raiders game at O.co Coliseum, Madden participated in the ceremonies honoring owner Al Davis, who died October 8. At halftime, Madden lit a torch on the breezeway above the Black Hole. (9:10)
