Daily Madden: Coach Is No Fan Of Thursday Football
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Raiders face the San Diego Chargers Thursday, just a few days after suffering a disappointing loss to the Denver Broncos. John Madden told the KCBS morning crew he thinks that's too little time between games.
"I don't know that the body really can do that. I'm kind of against Thursday football," Madden said. "I don't think that two or three days is really enough to heal up the way they play the game now... I think sometimes we have to think about the bodies that are playing these games... Going from Sunday to Thursday, I don't think is right."
Meanwhile, Stanford football is experimenting with an electronic mouthpiece worn by players to gather data on blows to the head. Madden said any focus on concussions in football is a good thing.
"Everyone is becoming aware of this now," Madden said. "It trickles down through college and into high school, and parents and youth football. I think when something is talked about and/or studied on one level, it can help a lot of levels." (8:05)
