Daily Madden: Changes In NFL Kickoff Rules May Be Coming
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - John Madden will join NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a fan forum before the Raiders-Broncos game in Oakland Thursday night.
Goodell might be asked about his efforts to make the game safer, including a change to the kickoff rules.
"He's been thinking about this for a couple of years," Madden told the KCBS morning crew, referring to the high rate of injury on kickoff returns. "I could see we would just do away with kickoffs and you get the ball on the 20 or 25 after they score against you. And then maybe you have the traditional kickoff on the opening kickoff of the game and the opening kickoff of the half."
John gives the 3-9 Raiders little chance of upsetting the 9-3 Broncos.
"Turnovers are tough against (Broncos quarterback) Peyton Manning... he's not going to give them to you," Madden said.
"He's throwing the ball well and his receivers are on the same page now. And the Raiders defensive secondary is really in shambles. I mean they just don't have enough guys and enough guys with enough talent to cover. In fact last Sunday, three of their secondary guys got concussions. They were kind of limping into Sunday's game and are really limping in I would think into tonight's game." (7:50)
