Daily Madden: Celebrations, Tantrums And Injuries
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - In Wednesday's chat with the KCBS morning crew, John Madden talks about unsafe celebrations and other demonstrations by athletes that backfire - including the recent injury by French golfer Thomas Levet who will play at the British Open after breaking his leg while jumping in a pond to celebrate his victory at the French Open.
Madden told the KCBS morning crew that such celebrations and temper tantrums lean toward premeditated versus spontaneous. His example: Giants pitcher Brian Wilson's dugout tantrum after coughing up a save.
"At times, when you're going to do something whether it's a celebration or a temper tantrum, you'd like to premeditate it," said Madden. "But if it's truly a true reaction to a celebration or a reaction to a temper tantrum, then you can't premeditate it."
Madden's take on Wilson's bat attack on a beverage cooler? "It could've been a little premeditated, don't you think?" said Madden.
Also Wednesday, Madden disputed a Sports Illustrated writer's notion that Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, the site of the US Open, is becoming obsolete.
