Daily Madden: Can West Help The Warriors?
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Former Los Angeles Lakers player and GM Jerry West was introduced to the media Tuesday as the new executive board member of the Golden State Warriors. At age 72, West said he can still play basketball. "I would usually pooh-pooh that," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew.
"That's one of the biggest lies in the world," said Madden. "Some of them believe that they can, and you know they can't, but Jerry West very well could be the one guy that could."
It's expected that West will be very involved with the team, and Madden said West excels at everything he does. "If we had to pick sides, I would pick Jerry West, and then after we pick sides, you can tell me what we're going to do," said Madden.
Meanwhile, the San Jose Sharks season ended in overtime Tuesday night on an odd goal by Kevin Bieksa of the Vancouver Canucks. "That's the difference between winning and losing," Madden said.
"That line is so fine, so thin... (the Sharks) played like heck, you can't play any more than that... It's kind of all or nothing. The team that wins gets all the praise, and the team that loses are bums, and it's really not that way." (8:45)
