Daily Madden: Can The Eagles Finish The Deal?
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- A back injury will keep Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo out of the Sunday showdown in Dallas with the Eagles. "Had Tony Romo been healthy -- I mean forget that he got the back injured in the last game -- I still would have thought Philadelphia was going to beat them," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
The winner of the game goes to the playoffs, the loser goes home. "The way Philadelphia is playing now, I think they're peaking.
I think they finally got what Chip Kelly is doing over there, and they're very comfortable in it. They play at a very high pace, and that pace wears down the defense. The Dallas defense isn't that good. And so even with a healthy Romo, I would have thought Philadelphia would beat them.... Anything can happen as we know in any NFL game, but if Philadelphia doesn't win this one, I'd really be shocked."
Quarterback Nick Foles has been a pleasant surprise for the Eagles. "A lot of people thought that he wouldn't be able to run the Chip Kelly offense because he's not a runner and it's a running quarterback type of (system) with the read option. But (Kelly) was able to do the same offense and adjust what he did to Nick Foles. And I think he did a heck of a job with that." (6:55)
