Daily Madden: Can NFL Speedsters Out-Run A Cheetah?
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson and Chicago Bears receiver Devin Hester raced a cheetah for a Nat Geo Wild TV special.
"That's pretty dangerous," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "I didn't like doing that stuff because of (the possibility of) a hamstring... That's something that I would probably not have supported if either one of them played for me. If they played on another team, heck yeah, go for it."
Johnson has the fastest time in the 40 yard dash in NFL combine history. Hester holds the NFL record with 12 career punt return TDs. A cheetah can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in three seconds. "How does a cheetah know it's a race?" John asked. The outcome won't be disclosed until the stunt airs in November.
"If it were a real race, the cheetah is going to win it," Madden said. "But still, you're dealing with an animal and it's kind of hard to explain it to him... The cheetah is faster than anything if it knows what the rules are."
NFL training camps are underway, with the first fights between teammates expected shortly. "It used to be around ten days, after they start getting bored and tired of each other," Madden said. "Now with the shortened training camp, I would imagine that day comes quicker." (7:15)
