Daily Madden: But Can He Play Football?
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Alabama running back Trent Richardson, projected to be a high draft choice, ran between a 4.45 and a 4.61 40 according to scouts at his pro day workout. John Madden told the KCBS morning crew that statistics like that are over-analyzed and over-blown.
"You're evaluating (him) as a football player," Madden said. "You're not going to take him to the Olympics with you or any of those things. Sometimes you forget how he plays football... We get so caught up with how high he jumps, how fast he runs around cones, and all these things... If you don't say he's a good player first, all the other stuff doesn't mean a dog-gone thing... How he did against Auburn, that's what you evaluate."
John said he expects a decision soon on whether former NFL coach Bill Parcells will replace Sean Payton as the coach of the New Orleans Saints during Payton's year-long suspension for the team's bounty system. "I know that they have to go through the Rooney rule --they do have to interview some other people for the job," Madden said. "However they do this, it's going to be big news."
