Daily Madden: Braves Take Exception To Melk-Man; 'Rough' British Open
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Atlanta infielder Chipper Jones said the Braves won't forget Giants left-fielder Melky Cabrera's 'happy' reaction to teammate Gregor Blanco's three-run homer in the 11th inning of the Giants 9-4 win Wednesday night.
"It's one of those unwritten rules, I guess," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "It was a long night, they had a rain delay, they were still playing after midnight. And Chipper is a little older now, and older people tend to get grumpy after midnight."
Adam Scott is the first round leader at six under par at the British Open. "When you see the layout, it looks relatively easy," Madden said. "And I said to myself, 'self, don't go there. Nothing is easy for you. You were never any doggone good when you were good.'"
The layout may not look difficult, but England's Royal Lytham & St. Annes course is dotted with 206 sand traps and lined with heavy rough. "You have the bunkers that are a problem and that gives you aiming points. And then you go to landing areas, and in staying away from the bunkers you get in the rough. I saw Tiger this morning take a full swing (in the rough) and his feet came out of the ground and it didn't go very far."
