Daily Madden: Are The Giants Thinking Too Much?
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Giants lost to the Dodgers 9-1 Monday night in another game marked by poor Giants defense.
"I kind of understand what (Giants manager Bruce) Bochy said," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "He said 'we look like we didn't even have spring training.' And I kind of agree with him, which is embarrassing as a coach or manager when you do play like that. They can go from a tight game when they look pretty good... to ugly faster than anyone, the way they're playing now."
The Giants added three errors to their already high season total.
"The old thing that you always worry about is carry over. That's why they always say forget the last one, concentrate on the next one. You do have time to think in baseball. The thing that they've always taught all the way down to little league and all the way back up through is if you have a bad at bat don't take it to the field with you. And then conversely if you have a bad play in the field don't take it to bat with you. Without naming names, you get the feeling that some of those players are taking bad plays with them."
How do you end a fielding slump?
"I always used to tell the team, 'Don't worry about the horse being blind, just load the wagon,'" John said. "And that meant don't think too much, just go out and play." (8:15)
