Daily Madden Archive: What Makes A Good Coach
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - During the NCAA tournament a year ago, John Madden and the KCBS morning crew discussed what it takes to make a good coach.
Madden pointed to success of Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo as an example of someone to "just does everything right" in his approach to coaching.
Madden said he learned a lot from studying the work of the legendary football coach Vince Lombardi. Success starts with a passion and love of the game backed up by knowledge, said Madden.
Lombardi made a simple statement once that John said stayed with him throughout his career: "You have to know what the end looks like" in your effort to excel as a coach.
