Daily Madden: Another Chance For Terrell Owens
SAN FRANCISCO - Former San Francisco 49ers star receiver Terrell Owens has signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks after sitting out the 2011 season. "Stick-to-itiveness, isn't it?" John Madden told the KCBS morning crew.
"A lot of people were ready to give up on Terrell Owens and think that he was through because of his age and so on, but he just kind of stayed out there and had these tryouts... and finally got a taker in Seattle," said Madden.
Owens is 38 years old. He had surgery on his left knee following his 2010 season with the Bengals. "He probably still can (play) or they wouldn't have signed him," John said. "He trains like heck."
Pro golfer Phil Mickelson has joined a group headed by former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Peter O'Malley as the new owners of the San Diego Padres. "I know (Mickelson) is a big sports fan, and I know that he's from the San Diego area, so I can see where it makes sense," Madden said. The purchase price is reported to be around $800 million. "You hope that the guy who is buying has deeper pockets and more interest in spending the money than the guy who is selling."
