Daily Madden: A Visit With Warriors Coach Mark Jackson
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The Warriors face the San Antonio Spurs in Oakland Thursday night, down 3-2 in the best of seven series.
"The Spurs are not a team that thinks they have a cushion with a Game Seven," Warriors coach Mark Jackson told John Madden and the KCBS Radio morning crew. "Their mind set in this situation is to attempt to put it away. But I'm very excited about my team because I think we're ready, we're excited, we've proven to be able to bounce back and face adversity and handle our business. And I think it's going to be a great night for our fans, for our organization and for my group of guys. We're excited about taking this series to a Game Seven. It's going to be a lot of fun."
Coach Madden asked Jackson when he first thought he had a playoff team.
"For me it was when there were no lights, no cameras, no media people," Jackson said. "(The players) spent the whole summer just breaking down film, being on the court, learning the game... They were together. And there's nothing like having a group tied together for the cause.... We were invested in one another, and when you do that, special things occur."
"He's done a heck of a job," Madden said. "Mark Jackson is one of the real good coaches in any sport. The way he's pulled this team together I think is great, I really do." (9:30)
