Daily Madden: A Stinging Loss For The Cowboys
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Trailing 26-3 at the half, the Green Bay Packers fought back and shocked the Dallas Cowboys by winning 37-36 Sunday in Texas.
"Green Bay is playing without Aaron Rodgers (and) Matt Flynn is their quarterback, who has been cut three times," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "You kind of start to chalk it up maybe before you play it. Then you get way ahead and (say) 'I knew they'd do this, Green Bay is not Green Bay, and this is going to be an easy win for us.' And then Green Bay starts fighting back, fighting back, and then Dallas blows it at the end with two interceptions."
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo threw the interceptions in the final three minutes, the first allowing Green Bay to take the lead.
Madden said he was surprised Romo kept throwing the ball when the Cowboys could have run down the clock with the lead.
"When you get to a situation where you don't need to pass anymore, you call off (the audibles from a run play to a pass play). You say 'all checks are off, all automatics are off, just run the play called.' And to me that's what they should have done." (7:00)
