Daily Madden: A New Starting QB For The Raiders?
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Undrafted rookie quarterback Matt McGloin threw three touchdown passes in leading the Oakland Raiders to a 28-23 victory over the Texans in Houston Sunday.
"I think he'll be the starting quarterback," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. McGloin replaced Terrelle Pryor, sidelined Sunday with a knee injury, who had struggled in his last four starts.
"I kind of just get the feeling that the Raiders are and have been looking for someone. Now Pryor gave them some life and some hope earlier with his legs and being able to run the ball and all that stuff... I think McGloin has given them some different hope and maybe, in their mind, some longer-range hope."
McGloin was impressive in his first NFL start.
"Everyone is just a play or two away, and you always have to be prepared for your chance," Madden said. "That's probably what he did. He probably has understood that role pretty well, that 'I'm a backup, my percentages of making it aren't very good. The odds are against me.'"
"You have that in one part of your mind, and in the other part of your mind (you) still prepare, because you're going to get some opportunity. When you do, you have to make the best of it. And I think that's exactly what he did," said the former Raider coach. (7:05)
