Daily Madden: A Long Off-Season Ahead For Resurgent Warriors
OAKLAND (KCBS) - The Golden State Warriors' magical playoff run came to an end in Oakland Thursday night as they lost to the San Antonio Spurs, who won the series 4-2.
"They came so far this year and accomplished so much more maybe than anyone thought they were going to. But having said that, it's still hard to lose," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "You don't go into any game thinking you're going to lose, so when you do you're disappointed... It was nice there at the end, the players came back out (for the fans). It's a good feeling. But in your gut you were that close, and it's a terrible feeling, believe me."
Madden said the finality of a season-ending loss is hard to shake.
"When it's the last one, you can't say 'well let's forget that one. We correct our mistakes. We get onto the next one,' because there's not a next one for six months. So that one doesn't go away. That one just sits there, believe me."
In other NBA news, the league announced the Kings will be staying in Sacramento.
"When a fan base has been loyal and they go through some tough times or ownership changes, you know, don't just start moving teams all the time. I think they've probably proven that to themselves -- that that's not the answer. The answer is to build on stability. And I think it was a smart move doing that."
Madden questioned the Warriors plans to move from Oakland to San Francisco.
"Oakland needs a win too... The fans are so good, so loyal, (they're) there all the time. The players love the fans, the fans love the players. Why do you want to move?" (8:25)
