Daily Madden: 49ers Versatility Is Key To Success
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The 49er defense shined in San Francisco's 28-17 victory over the Cowboys in Dallas Sunday. But John Madden says don't forget about the offense.
"The two things when you play the 49ers that you have to worry about is you have to worry about their run. You know we're talking about Frank Gore or (Carlos) Hyde, they have a two ways go there now. And then the big thing is (quarterback Colin) Kaepernick running," Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew. "You see what that does. That spreads out and holds the defense. And you can see that after he ran and got outside a couple times, you know that Dallas just stayed out there and waited for him and then he just handed the ball inside. That helps the running game and the passing game because with the pass rush it calms everything down when the quarterback can run. Every defensive coordinator in football, if you say what is the number one worry, it's probably some wide receiver getting deep that you can't handle. But number two is a running quarterback." (7:50)
