Daily Madden: 49ers To Face Disappointing Bills
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The 3-1 49ers meet the 2-2 Buffalo Bills at Candlestick Park Sunday.
"Buffalo is one of those teams that tends to climb up and get close to the top and then slide back again," John Madden told the KCBS morning crew. "A year ago I thought they were pretty good... You thought this could be the year." But last week the Bills were crushed by New England.
"The Patriots had two guys rush for over 100 yards, and two receivers catch for over 100 yards," John said. "So they got them on the ground, they got them in the air. I don't expect Alex Smith and the 49ers to score like that, but I think they're going to learn something from that."
On defense, the 49ers will try to contain Bills running back C.J. Spiller.
"I don't know that anyone is going to get a lot of yards running the ball against the 49er defense," Madden said. "Now that doesn't mean you can't make a play here or get a first down here and there. I think one of the keys is can the 49ers get a score separation where the run doesn't mean anything. That's what you always try to do is make a team one dimensional, and you can do that by scoring by offense." (6:45)
