Daily Madden: 49ers-Panthers Is Old-Fashioned Football
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - John Madden is expecting a low-scoring, physical game when the San Francisco 49ers meet the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte Sunday. "The one thing that I like about this game is it's kind of old-fashioned NFL pro football," Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
"It's going to be won in the trenches or lost in the trenches. Both of these teams are physical teams. It's going to be the team that out-physicals the other, and they're both capable of it."
The 49ers and the Panthers are both exceptional on defense. "We always talk about the 49ers front seven, which is great, and maybe the best in football. But if they are the best in football, then Carolina could be 1-B."
Madden said the San Diego Chargers victory over the Broncos in Denver last month gives them confidence heading into Sunday's AFC playoff game. "They've proven that they can do it," Madden said. "(But) I think that Denver is going to be too good, and I think Peyton Manning is going to be too good."
