Daily Madden: 49ers Need To Focus On Playbook, Not Weather
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- It's expected to be one of the coldest weather games in NFL history when the 49ers meet the Packers in Green Bay Sunday. "At some point, you just have to go play," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
"There's no way you're going to put (the cold) out of your mind. But you still can't let that be the overriding thought on everything that you do. The team that goes out there and plays is going to be the team that does the best."
The Packers may be better accustomed to the cold weather, but Madden said the 49ers may have the schematic advantage. "The 49ers are really built to play in this kind of game," John said. "(They're) a running team that in addition to the running backs and Frank Gore, also has a running quarterback. It has a good blocking offensive line... I know Green Bay players are from there and practice (in the cold), but the 49ers, as you look at their roster, are much more made to play in that game than the Packers."
Madden said (Green Bay QB) Aaron Rodgers looks in top form despite returning just last weekend from his long absence recovering from a broken collarbone. "He didn't have any rust on him as all," John said. "The three weeks before, he thought he was going to play, so he was taking reps and he was getting ready every week to play... He did get ready, and when his chance came, he had really been prepared for it." (6:40)
