Daily Madden: 49ers Hang Tough For Trip To Green Bay
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- They scored only six points in the second half, but the 49ers prevailed at the end to beat the Cardinals 23-20 in Arizona Sunday. "I was impressed with how hard (the 49ers) played," John Madden told the KCBS Radio morning crew.
"The week before you go into the playoffs, you don't like to be in a war. And that's what the 49ers had to do... (The Cardinals) are a very, very physical team. And when you play them it's going to be a physical game, and it was. And it was not only a physical game, but a highly competitive game."
The 49ers travel to Green Bay to face the Packers Sunday in the first round of the playoffs. The Packers edged the Chicago Bears Sunday when quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw a 48 yard touchdown pass on 4th and 8 with 38 seconds left in the game. "That's what great quarterbacks do," Madden said. "When you need the play to win the game, they make it. The average guys, they make it once in awhile. The poor guys never make it. Even in that situation, you were kind of expecting him to make that play." (8:00)
