Daily Madden: 49ers Are Fun To Watch
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Alex Smith threw for a season-high 303 yards and three touchdowns, Frank Gore ran for 106 yards and a score, and the San Francisco 49ers amassed a franchise-record 621 yards in blowing by the Buffalo Bills 45-3 on Sunday.
Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis each eclipsed 100 yards receiving to back Smith, who threw TD passes of 43, 28 and 10 yards and surpassed 300 yards passing for only the third time in his career.
Coach John Madden told the KCBS morning crew that franchise records aside, the 49ers are just plain fun to watch.
"Now when you say we're a combination of strong offense, strong defense and strong special teams, it kind of all makes sense," said Madden. "I think if you said that a year ago, although they had a great record, I think you can say well maybe I'm just kidding about one of those areas."
"You're not anymore."
Madden liked what he saw in the Green Bay-Indianapolis contest, too, with the Colts stunning the Packers on an Andrew Luck-to-Reggie Wayne touchdown with less than a minute to play - an emotional win for team missing head coach Chuck Pagano, in the hospital undergoing treatment for leukemia.
"Andrew Luck and that whole Colts story and their coach and the comeback in the second half," said Madden. "Andrew Luck, he's never looked like a rookie to me. That second half, if you said he was an 8 or 10 year veteran, I'd say yep, yep, he looks like that."
