Daily Madden: 2 NFL Champs Slug It Out
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Thursday night's NFL season opening game between the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers and last year's champs New Orleans Saints was an impressive display by both teams, according to John Madden.
In his daily chat with the KCBS morning crew, Madden was just as impressed with the Saints comeback ability as he was with the Packers early firepower.
Madden said New Orleans is among the few teams able to withstand the Packers' onslaught. "There are some teams that would get behind like that and they'd fold the tent - they just don't have the players to make those kind of comebacks," said Madden.
In the game's critical, final play, Madden said teams already have a play in mind for a do-or-die goal line scenario. "They've been preparing for this opener the whole off-season," said Madden. "You're thinking about it all the time. What's your best short-yardage, what's your best goal line play," said Madden.
Meanwhile in keeping with the way some player introduce themselves on national TV broadcasts, members of the KCBS morning crew introduced themselves with a nod to their favorite alma mater.
