Cyclists Applaud Second Caltrain Bike Car
SAN JOSE (KCBS) – Cyclists are applauding the completion of Caltrain's $300,000 bike project.
The transit agency has just completed a project to ensure that each of its trains are equipped with two bike cars.
Caltrain's older cars are equipped with bike cars that can carry 40 bikes each, while its newer ones have bike cars that are able to hold 24 bikes each. The cars are identified with a yellow bike decal.
"I think it's a wonderful thing," said Caltrain rider, and cyclist Alan Scott. "I think bikes are really tied to the future of personal transportation."

Christine Dunn of Caltrain said that the agency first welcomed bikes on trains way back in 1992.
"Within the last two years we've increased capacity onboard the trains by 50 percent," said Dunn. "So this is not something new for us, this is an ongoing project."
The project was completed six months ahead of schedule.
