Cupertino To Host Traveling Replica Of Vietnam Veterans Memorial
CUPERTINO (CBS SF) -- The Traveling Vietnam Wall will be coming to Cupertino for a five-day stint next week, just in time for Veterans Day, city officials announced Wednesday.
The wall is 80 percent the size of the original wall at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. and is part of the "American Veterans Traveling Tribute" that is being exhibited across the country, according to Sandra James, president of the Cupertino Veterans Memorial and a former mayor of Cupertino.
"We were able to get it for Veterans Day, which is quite exciting," James said. "It's quite an honor for us to do something like this."
The wall will be on display at the Veterans Memorial Park, located at Stevens Creek Boulevard and Anton Way, from Nov. 9 through Nov. 13. There will be storytellers on hand to talk about the stories behind the names on the wall.
The exhibit is free and will be available for viewing around-the-clock.
In conjunction with the exhibit, the city will host a welcoming ceremony at 1 p.m. on Nov. 10, featuring performances by local school bands and choirs and speeches by war veterans.
At 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, a formal Veterans Day event will be held with high-ranking military brass and representatives from various military branches.
