CSU Faculty Vote To Strike East Bay, SoCal Campuses
HAYWARD (CBS/AP) -- California State University faculty members are planning to strike on two campuses next week to protest the administration's decision to withhold negotiated pay raises.
The California Faculty Association's governing board voted Monday to conduct one-day strikes at the East Bay and Dominguez Hills campuses.
Union President Lillian Taiz says the Nov. 17 walkout would be the first CSU faculty strike since collective bargaining began in 1983.
Taiz says the board unanimously approved the move after members overwhelming voted in favor of striking.
Faculty members from other Cal State campuses plan to travel to the East Bay and Dominguez Hills campuses to support their striking colleagues.
CSU faculty plan to picket on all 23 campuses on Tuesday and Wednesday to protest the administration's policies and bargaining proposals.
