Crews Make Gains On Wildfire Burning In Shasta-Trinity Forest; 20 Percent Contained
WEAVERVILLE (CBS/AP) -- Fire officials say a lightning-sparked wildfire in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest remained at 1,480 acres overnight, with containment at 20 percent as of Sunday morning.
Calmer winds Saturday helped firefighters make gains on the blaze that has been burning since Tuesday.
About 866 firefighters, aided by water-dropping aircraft, are battling the fire.
A fire spokesman says that about 100 people along a county road southeast of the fire have been told to evacuate but only a few have left their homes. Meanwhile, about 240 people in the town of Hyampom, were told to be ready to evacuate.
The lightning-sparked blaze broke out in the forest about halfway between Eureka and Redding, which baked under triple-digit temperatures on Saturday.
