Crew Rescued From Boat Near Dumbarton Bridge
MENLO PARK (KCBS) – Eight people had to be rescued from the Bay Thursday morning near the Dumbarton Bridge, after their boat hit an old pier.
The Menlo Park Fire Protection District received a call around 9:00 a.m. of a boat in distress in the Dumbarton Bridge estuary near Facebook headquarters.

"We had an airboat out there with eight people on (board) for a project doing reclamation out on the Bay to remove some evasive plant species," said Menlo Park Fire Protection District Division Chief Frank Fraone.
"What ended up happening is the airboat itself hit one of the submerged pylons from the old train trestle that used to cross the Bay in this area," said Fraone. "The boat was damaged, it took on water and it was up to the point where the boat was completely submerged in water and the members were standing there with nowhere to go."
Fraone said not only was the airboat overloaded, but there was also another concern.
"None of the people on the boat were wearing life preservers," he said. "That is a concern for the fire department. We emphasize it to everybody who goes out on the water, whether they're a passenger or driver, it's important you always wear a life preserver."
No one was injured in the incident, but Fraone said the outcome could have been different had this happened during high tide.
