It all happened in the second quarter. Curry drove to the rim and circled to his left, with Paul chasing. Curry hit Paul with a behind-the-back dribble, then brought it back the other way, leaving Paul stumbling to the floor. He of course hit the jumper.
The reaction from the Warriors bench was priceless, as they erupted at the crazy move. Perhaps even more impressive, you could hear the oohs and aahs from the Staples Center crowd, showing their respect for a visiting player.
"I knew he was trailing and I thought I could make a move back to the basket," Curry said after the game. "Somewhere the creativity in between, the double move. As soon as I saw him go down, I knew I had to shoot it and just see what happened."
Thousands of fans, NBA players and analysts took to social media, with a wave of memes and jokes about Curry breaking Paul's ankles. Below is a sampling:
For his part, Paul seemed to take it in stride, responding to comedian Kevin Hart.
The Warriors won the ballgame, 110-106, improving their league-best record to 61-13.
