2 More Oakland Robberies Tied To Craigslist Deals
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Two more people have been robbed at gunpoint in Oakland after responding to Craigslist ads, continuing a string of such robberies targeting would-be online buyers and sellers, police warned Saturday.
A person responding to a Craigslist seller was robbed near 73rd Avenue last night, and a potential car buyer was robbed near 62nd and Outlook avenue, according to police.
The robberies are the latest in a series of such scams in the past month or so. Several Craigslist ads claiming to sell high-end goods such as cars and electronics have been used to lure victims in recent weeks.
Police are urging members of the public to exercise caution when buying or selling items on Craigslist.
Insist on meeting in a public location like a cafe, and refuse to meet in a secluded area or let strangers into your home. Be especially careful when buying or selling high-end items.
Tell a friend or family member where you're going and consider having a friend accompany you.
Carry a cashier check or money order rather than a large quantity of cash, and trust your instincts, police said.
