Craigslist Named As Presenting Sponsor Of Bay To Breakers Race

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- San Francisco's famous Bay to Breakers race has a new presenting sponsor—the online classifieds site Craigslist.

The 102nd running of the 12k race is scheduled for May 19. The race typically draws tens of thousands of people who show up in colorful costumes ready to walk or run from the Financial District to Ocean Beach.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for Bay to Breakers to partner with one of the world's most visited websites and another San Francisco original," race director Angela Fang said in a statement.

"We're tickled pink to sponsor Bay to Breakers," Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster said. "A fellow San Francisco institution, this storied footrace celebrates the unique character of our colorful city, drawing fans and participants from around the world."

Craigslist began in San Francisco in 1995 and is now the most used classified ad service worldwide, according to the company.

The previous Bay to Breakers main sponsor, the online retailer Zazzle, dropped out after last year's race.

More information about the race can be found online at www.baytobreakers.com.
