Craigslist Blocks Adult Services Ads

HARTFORD, Conn. (KCBS/AP) _ It appears that Craigslist has shut down its controversial adult services section.

In the spot where users would normally click to find a one night stand or no-strings-attached sex is a bar that reads "censored."

This comes two weeks after the attorney generals of 17 states wrote in an open letter that Craigslist should remove the adult services section because it was not closely enough monitored and could result in prostitution and even child trafficking.

Craigslist has not yet publicly responded to the letter, and has not yet returned KCBS' requests for comment, but on Saturday the section was replaced by a black and white censored logo.

Some encounters set up through Craigslist have ended in violence and even death, authorities have said.

Last week, authorities said a former medical student accused of killing a masseuse he met through Craigslist committed suicide in the Boston jail where he was awaiting trial.

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, one of the AGs who pressed for the change, said in a written statement that he welcomed the change and was trying to verify Craigslist's official policy going forward.

He said if it was doing the right thing voluntarily in response to the AGs, it could set a good example for others.
