Couple Who Responded To Oakland Craigslist Car Ad Robbed

OAKLAND (CBS / AP) -- Police said a married couple who went to Oakland to buy a luxury car they saw advertised on Craigslist are out thousands of dollars after they were robbed instead.

The Oakland Tribune reports the couple, who have not been named, were responding to an ad for a Mercedes-Benz.

The newspaper said after meeting the man who claimed to be the seller of the car around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday the two were robbed at gunpoint during what they thought was test drive of the car on Interstate 580.

Electronic items and other property were also taken before they were forced out of the car.

After being robbed, they walked down an off-ramp and called police. Investigators did not say how much money was taken, but said it was several thousand dollars.
