Costco South San Francisco Recalls Rotisserie Chicken After Salmonella Outbreak
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) -- The South San Francisco Costco store has recalled nearly 40,000 pounds of rotisserie chicken linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened nearly 300 people nationwide.
Federal officials announced the recall Saturday morning of nearly 9,000 rotisserie chickens and related products such as soup, chicken salad and leg quarters purchased at the Costco store between Sept. 11 and Sept. 23.
Costco officials couldn't be reached Saturday. A recorded message warns customers to discard or return any leftovers of the Foster Farms chicken products.
The Agricultural Department says health officials traced the salmonella outbreak to the South San Francisco store and its ready-to-eat chicken cooked on the premises.
Investigators have linked three Foster Farms processing plants in Central California to the outbreak, which has a high hospitalization rate.
