Contra Costa Vandalism Prompts Offer Of Reward
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (CBS SF) - NextEra Energy Resources is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for up to $100,000 of damage to a construction site in Contra Costa County in August, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.
The vandalism occurred at the site of NextEra's Vasco wind turbine construction project in a remote area of Contra Costa County, near Vasco Road about seven miles south of Camino Diablo. The vandalism happened between 7 p.m. on Aug. 26 and 7 a.m. on Aug. 27.
According to the sheriff's office, the site manager at the construction site that night said someone moved an excavator next to some underground pipelines in the area and dug several holes, rupturing an oil pipeline.
The energy company that owns the pipeline noticed the pressure loss and shut down the pipeline, but it is unknown how much oil was released.
The estimated cost of the damage and cleanup was between $50,000 and $100,000, according to the sheriff's office.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the investigation division of the sheriff's office at (925) 313-2647. Tips can also be left anonymously at (866) 846-3592.
