Contra Costa Cost-Cutting Measures May Affect Supervisor Salaries
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (KCBS)- The idea of cost savings is getting personal for some Contra Costa County supervisors as they engage in an unofficial challenge and things are getting interesting.
East County Supervisor Mary Piepho said she's not willing to turn in her county cell phone as fellow supervisors John Gioia and Federal Glover have done. They called it a symbolic gesture that follows Governor Brown's recent actions. But, Piepho is willing to raise the stakes.
KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:
"If my colleagues would do it I would too," Piepho answered when asked if she would give up her salary.
West County Supervisor John Gioia answered no to the same question, saying he wasn't independently wealthy and that his wife works for a non-profit.
With the county facing another tough budget with a minimum $45 million shortfall on the horizon, Gioia said county supervisors are likely to take a cut in pay.
