ConsumerWatch: Wireless Companies To Charge More, End Some Perks
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) -- Talk is cheap, but one cell phone company is raising the cost to go online, while another is saying goodbye to some popular perks.
Sprint is raising the cost of unlimited data for customers by $10, to $79 a month. That's the same as competitor T-Mobile. Sprint, the nation's third largest wireless carrier, is saying the price increase is needed to help maintain its network. The change will take effect on January 30.
Verizon Wireless is quietly ending it's "New Every Two" promotion, which gave customers big discounts for new phones after they completed 20 months of a two-year contract. Customers who have been with Verizon for two more years will be grandfathered in, and will get one more opportunity to get the discount.
