Construction Underway On Interstate 680 Widening Project In San Ramon
SAN RAMON (KCBS) – A heavily traveled stretch of Interstate 680 in the San Ramon area is undergoing roadwork, the last phase of a widening project that will create auxiliary lanes on the freeway.
"The auxiliary lanes connect an on-ramp at one interchange with the off-ramp at the next interchange. They allow traffic to move more easily and safely, as you would enter or exit the freeway," said Susan Miller, Project Director for the Contra Costa Transportation Authority.

The lanes will connect the entrance and exit ramps between the Sycamore Valley Road and Crow Canyon Road interchanges on I-680 in both directions.
Miller said that, fortunately for commuters, much of the work will be done at night and in the pre-dawn hours.
"Motorists always should be aware of and slow down through the construction zone," Miller said. "It's important that they be aware."
Ramps will be closed intermittently, with traffic control in effect and detours posted for motorists.
Miller said this represents the last of three auxiliary lane improvements in the area.
It is expected to open to traffic in 2014.
