Concord To Pay $47K To Settle Officer's Lawsuit
CONCORD (AP) -- The city of Concord will pay more than $47,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a veteran police officer who claimed he was retaliated against for supporting several female colleagues.
In a lawsuit filed last year, Lt. Tim Runyon said he had been "isolated and denigrated" for standing up for female officers who sued the police department for sexual harassment.
The 45-year-old Runyon claimed he was demoted and falsely accused of making inappropriate sexual comments as part of the retaliation against him.
The $47,512 settlement was approved Tuesday night by the Concord City Council.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that it is at least the fourth payout Concord has made in lawsuits involving sexual harassment or discrimination in the police department.
