Concord Man Killed In Shopping Center Stabbing
CONCORD (CBS SF) - A man who was arrested Sunday on suspicion of fatally stabbing another man during a dispute in the parking lot of a Concord shopping center has been identified as 19-year-old Joshua Cardone, police said.
Cardone and the victim, 20-year-old Richard Gilliam, both Concord residents, were apparently involved in some kind of a dispute in the parking lot, located at 5450 Ygnacio Valley Road, when Cardone allegedly stabbed Gilliam, according to police.
Police were called at about 4:20 p.m. When they arrived, they found Gilliam in the parking lot with at least one stab wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Cardone remained at the scene, and witnesses identified him as the person who had stabbed Gilliam, police said.
He was arrested and booked into county jail, where he is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
Investigators are still working to determine the nature of the relationship between Gilliam and Cardone and trying to figure out what the dispute was about.
Police plan to bring the case to the district attorney's office later this week and expect to seek murder charges against Cardone.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Detective David Ishikawa at (925) 603-5864. People who wish to remain anonymous can call the Police Department's tip line at (925) 603-5836.
