2 Concord Schools Locked Down After Suspect Crashes Stolen Car Nearby
CONCORD (CBS SF) - Lockdowns have been lifted at two Concord schools Tuesday afternoon after a suspect fleeing from police crashed a stolen car in the area, a police lieutenant said.
Around 11:20 a.m., Contra Costa County sheriff's deputies chased a suspected car thief as he drove into Concord. The suspect then crashed the stolen car into another vehicle on Concord Boulevard near West Street, Lt. Robin Heinemann said.
She said the suspect exited the stolen car and tried unsuccessfully to steal another vehicle in the area before fleeing on foot.
As officers searched for the suspect, police placed Concord High School, located at 4200 Concord Blvd., on lockdown. Administrators at neighboring El Dorado Middle School voluntarily placed their campus on lockdown after being informed of the police activity.
Heinemann said police searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect, and lockdowns at both schools were lifted a short time later.
The suspect is described as a heavy-set Hispanic or medium-skinned male with long dark hair who was last seen wearing a black Oakland Raiders jacket, according to police.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Concord police at (925) 671-3030. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call the Police Department's tip line at (925) 603-5836.
