Con Artist, Thief Rip Off Grieving Sebastopol Family
SEBASTOPOL (CBS/AP) -- A con artist and a thief ripped off a Sebastopol family grieving their son died last month in Peru after drinking a hallucinogenic tea.
Well-wishers had been donating cash to help the family of Kyle Nolan, an 18-year-old who made international headlines when he died during a 10-day spiritual program in the Amazonian jungle. The cash was stolen on Thursday from a donation box on the front desk of the veterinarian office of his mother.
The day before, a man pretending he was Nolan's brother called his grandmother in Los Angeles pleading for $2,000 to bail out of jail. She wired the money before discovering the scam.
Police are looking for suspects in both cases.
