Community Raises Funds For Mom Left In Coma After Deadly SF Crash
SAUSALITO (KCBS) – The mother of a 16-year-old boy, killed in a traffic accident on Pine Street in San Francisco last month, remains in a coma at San Francisco General Hospital.
Tina Chew is a postal worker with a fairly devoted following along her route in Sausalito. David Noonan heard about the high-speed crash on KCBS, and then found out that the woman left in a coma, whose son was killed, was Chew, his neighborhood's beloved letter carrier.

"People were just in shock, wanting to do something, not knowing what to do," said Noonan. "And just feeling bad that somebody that was part of their everyday lives was suddenly not going to be there."
Noonan said Chew has been a happy, helpful, smiling presence in Sausalito for years, which is why neighbors are tying yellow ribbons around their mailboxes, and have sent hundreds of cards to her hospital room.
"She wasn't that anonymous person that just drives by and drops off the mail, she was a part of the fabric of the neighborhood and you wanted to know her," he said.
Neighbors are donating to a medical and funeral expense account for Chew and her family. For those looking to donate, the information is below:
