Community Corner: From San Francisco To New York, Celebrating Heroes In Hospitals
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - A new book celebrates the lives and work of those who often go unnoticed. 'The American Nurse' features 75 unforgettable women and men at the heart of America's healthcare system.
Photographer, author and award-winning filmmaker Carolyn Jones will be presenting her latest work at the San Francisco General Hospital on November 14th.
KCBS' Connie C. Kim talks to author Carolyn Jones:
Jones said her goal was to cover as much of the country as possible highlighting universal topics like poverty, war and death.
'The American Nurse' features a range of nurses from those serving in veterans hospitals, prisons, homeless clinics and big city mega hospitals.
A black and white portrait of each nurse is accompanied by a touching, personal profile.
During her journey in creating this book, Jones said she was overwhelmed with the level of compassion and caring she experienced from all the nurses.
"I think they're cut from a completely different cloth than the rest of us," Jones said. "They're in a unique position to have a snap shot of humanity most of us don't have."
